Traditional Braces Procedure
The process for receiving traditional metal braces can be extensive. However, we want to assure you that it is also painless. Throughout the process, your comfort is our number one priority. We have comfortable seating, and you can watch a movie above your head while we work. If there is anything that you know would increase your comfort level, please let us know.
Traditional braces use metal brackets and archwires to pull and push your teeth into a better position. We cement each metal bracket onto the surface of each tooth. In order to have this done correctly, we need to clean your teeth and dry out your mouth thoroughly. Any moisture could stop the adhesive from working correctly. Once each bracket is secured, we can begin working with the archwires.
Each archwire is a U-shaped wire that clips into each bracket. The wire runs along the center of the patient’s teeth line. We will then tighten the wire that will pull on the brackets, moving the teeth straight. You will need to come into our dental office throughout your treatment to have the wire adjusted and tightened again to keep the treatment going. This is not a long adjustment visit and should be painless!
Your treatment procedure and its length will depend on your misalignment, to begin with. For some, the treatment could be longer and include elastics, spacer, chains, or other orthodontics appliances. Others may need the metal brackets and wires to push their teeth into the correct positions. The average treatment period usually is 10-12 months. We will discuss this in further detail during a consultation for your braces, as each case is different and personalized. We will make sure that every step of the process is clear for you before we begin.
