Light Sedation
Light sedation allows the patient to be completely awake and aware during treatment. Laughing gas is a mild form of sedation breathed in through the nose with oxygen. This type of sedation is administered to you before your treatments and throughout. Patients that take advantage of this type of sedation will feel relaxed and comfortable while in the chair.
We use this type of sedation for patients with minor anxiety, and we can even administer it to children. Laughing gas won’t only allow you to feel more comfortable, but the treatments will go faster because of fewer pauses and breaks.
With laughing gas, you’ll breathe in the gas through a mask. Within minutes, you’ll feel more relaxed. You might even feel euphoric, but you’ll still be awake and able to communicate with your dentist.
Oral Sedation
For patients who need a little extra help relaxing, we can administer oral medication to give you additional sedation. To obtain the prescription, you must speak to one of our dentists. If you are qualified to receive medical sedation, you will administer the medication the night before your procedure.
On the day of your procedure, we will instruct you to take the pill a certain amount of time before. With oral sedation, you will be awake and will be able to drive home afterward. Patients choose oral sedation to feel a more profound relaxation than laughing gas can give them.
